CLIENT OVERVIEW
The University of Northampton operates a wide range of buildings and mechanical services that rely on consistent water quality to protect heating, cooling, and distribution systems. Their existing conditioning unit had become outdated, unreliable, and was no longer performing effectively, leading to increased maintenance requirements and reduced system efficiency.
THE CHALLENGE
The University required a modern replacement for their ageing conditioning unit, ensuring:
- Improved protection for the building’s pipework and mechanical plant
- Minimal downtime during the upgrade
- A smooth integration with existing services
- A more efficient, long-term, low-maintenance solution
Access constraints and the size of the original unit added complexity, as the old system needed to be safely removed and a new, larger, more effective Hydromag unit positioned and installed.
OUR SOLUTION
Infinity Water supplied and installed a Hydromag magnetic conditioning unit, offering improved performance and long-lasting protection for the University’s system. The installation included:
- Safe removal of the outdated conditioning unit
- Mechanical installation of the new Hydromag system
- Pipework modifications to match the updated design and ensure optimal flow
- Installation of a new control panel for monitoring and operation
- Full electrical wiring and commissioning
The Hydromag unit provides a chemical-free solution to scale control and corrosion reduction, extending the life of the University’s mechanical systems.
THE PROCESS
1. Removal & Preparation
- Disconnected and removed the old conditioning unit
- Prepared the area for the new, larger Hydromag unit
- Ensured safe access and correct lifting procedures
2. Installation & Pipework Modifications
- Positioned the Hydromag unit and secured it in place
- Reworked and adapted existing pipework to achieve a clean, efficient layout
- Installed isolation valves and improved serviceability
3. Control Panel Upgrade
- Fitted a new control panel matched to the unit requirements
- Completed all wiring and electrical integration
- Tested alarms, readings, and system communication
4. Commissioning
- Brought the system online and verified correct flow and operation
- Ensured the Hydromag unit was functioning to specification
- Handed over to the University with guidance on operation and maintenance
THE RESULTS
- Enhanced system efficiency with a modern magnetic conditioning solution
- Extended lifespan of the University’s heating and cooling systems
- Reduced maintenance requirements compared to the old unit
- Seamless installation carried out with minimal disruption to building operations
- A clean, professional installation designed for long-term reliability
